The Male Eyebrow

As almost everyone has eyebrows, they come in all different shapes, sizes, thickness and length.  Some go unnoticed while others are very distinct.  So distinctive that you can identify a person just by their eyebrows.

When you think about eyebrows, you generally think about women manipulating, tweezing, plucking, coloring and ultimately changing the shape of their eyebrows. While doing this, they change their look, attitude and in some cases their career such as  Joan Crawford, Marlene Dietrich and Selma Hayak did.

Men are different, very few will manipulate their eyebrows.  Only in the last decade or so have men started to tend to their eyebrows.  Some go to salons, some do it at home or some get tended to from their partner.

A man and his eyebrows are closely identified that is seems either the man takes on the personality of the brow or the eyebrow takes on the personality of the man.  Could Dirty Harry have ever been so menacing if Clint Eastwood’s brows hadn’t almost met above his nose in a frown (created of course) as he stared down the barrel of a .45 magnum?

Part of the charm of Fifties teen idols Elvis Presley and James Dean was their black thick eyebrows that expressed their facial expressions so well.  These eyebrows could make a teenager melt.  Compared to his brown hair, Presley’s eyebrows looked jet black and stood out from a far.

There are those fortunate souls who are blessed with eyebrows that stand out. They helped actors such as Jack Nicholson and Charlie Chaplin transform a character.  Nicholson’s devilish eyebrows helped him create his crazy character in The Shining and in The Witches of Eastwick.  His eyebrows added so much to these characters.

Whether men want to believe it or not, grooming their eyebrows can have a big effect on their appearance.  More and more men are turning to sugaring, waxing or even laser hair removal to shape their brows!  Plus, nobody wants to see bushy eyebrows.
